Relationship and Marriage Counselling

  • Is conflict getting in the way of your relationship or marriage?
  • Are you feeling “stuck” or like things are going around in circles?
  • Are you struggling with decisions relating to seperation, divorce or ending your relationship?
  • Has there been infidelity or a breach of trust?
  • Is violence playing a role in your relationship?
  • Are you experiencing challenges with parenting?
  • Are there other problems that are jeopardising the connection you share with your partner?

Putting the time aside to consciously look at the difficulties that are unfolding in a relationship is extremely important but not always prioritised in the context of people’s busy lives.  So, couples who are experiencing difficulties may benefit from attending counselling because the time is used to focus entirely on their relationship.

At Evolve Counselling, we understand that many couples approach their first session with trepidation and apprehension, so our aim is to create a safe, relaxed and non-judgmental space in which problems, concerns, fears, worries and all sorts of other experiences can be explored in helpful ways.

How You Can Benefit from Relationship Counselling

Relationship Counselling can help a couple to:

  • understand the problems & the effects that those problems are having on the relationship
  • openly discuss experiences that have been silenced by fear, worry or shame
  • articulate expectations of each other and of the relationship
  • explore how each individual is contributing to what is working and what is not
  • find ways of responding to problems that help to diminish their negative effects
  • discuss important decisions that may need to be made about or within the relationship
  • clarify hopes and intentions as individuals and as a couple

How Does Relationship Counselling Work?

Evolve Counselling offers a combination of individual and joint sessions for couples.  During the sessions, your Counsellor is not interested in making judgments on who is right or wrong, telling you what to do, or persuading you to take a particular course of action.  Instead, questions will be asked that enable you to make new discoveries about yourselves, your lives and your relationship.

This will create a foundation upon which you can build in whatever ways you see fit.  Suggestions and ideas will most certainly be put forward by your Counsellor, but it is up to you as to whether or how you put them into action.
